Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Energy Adviser to the Prime Minister said on Monday that the government will re-open the gas connections next month while the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) would be commissioned into the national grid.”Industrial sector would get priority in getting gas connection following the power, commercial and residential areas,” he said without mentioning the exact time frame yesterday.
He made all these comments while inaugurating a session of the ‘Global Steel and Engineering Limited (GSEL)’ at Shailabil, Paruhala, Dhamrai, Dhaka.The Federation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Safiul Islam was present there as a special guest in the inauguration ceremony.
Masum-Al-Beruni, Managing Director of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited; Mahammad Fazlul Azim, Chairman, Azim Group and other high officials were also present at the ceremony.
Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said that industry and electricity would get priority in this new connection setup and then business sector and household would get that respectively.The Adviser said the additional gas will be added in national grid in the next month as a ship with the first consignment of LNG is expected to reach the country in the next 10 days.He said “The number of businessmen has demanded to gas connection in their factory across the country. We will connect the gas on priority basis in the industry sector. “A number of illegal gas users of the area have been using gas in connivance of local influential officials of Titas gas distribution company.
In this regard, he said the government will disconnect illegal gas line across the country, and will give stringent punishment to the illegal gas users and corrupt officials..
Mohammad Fazlul Azim, said “Azim Group has started in 1975 as a one-man band, and now created over 28,000 jobs. We are a pioneer in the garments industry which today is employing over 4.5 million people.”

The way we have created a mark in the garment sector of Bangladesh, we aspire to do the same in the steel industry of the country,” Azim said.
Azim Group is one of the pioneers in garments industry of Bangladesh. It has been exporting readymade garments to various markets of the world including USA, Europe, South America, Russia, Japan, China and Australia.
GSEL started their new journey since last two month. They produce line tower and mobile tower by 20 to 25 machines. They got orders of 12 line towers and 60 mobile towers within last 2 month said a worker. Workers were almost satisfied but they also expected higher payment in over time working.
